Hey everyone,
NMCHWA is having a great year in 2008 so far. At the March 28 quarterly training entitled Crisis Prevention & Intervention (CPI), participants were issued certifications; the June 13, 2008 training offered a leadership training called "Strategies for Success" by author Ruthie Dearing JD; the August 8 training will look finalizing the National Conference agenda and disseminating scholarships for attendance.
Other news, the Center for Sustainable Health Outreach (CSHO) Unity conference was held in Albuquerque June 16-19, 2008. Some of our members were panelists in sessions regarding CHW Certification and Highlighting CHW State and National Networks. We were happy to learn about the different efforts throughout the country and proud that New Mexico has made great strides for the CHW model over the years.
NMCHWA is also hosting the National CHW/Promotora Conference this year in Albuquerque, NM on October 20-21, 2008! Great Train the Trainer sessions on HPV, Epilepsy and Diabetes will be offered, plus 9 different mini-workshops to choose from. We'll have stipends available to help NMCHWA members attend the national conference. We are combining the state and national conference.
We're currently looking at offering CEUs for nurses and social workers at the national conference. For a conference registration flyer contact nmchwa@yahoo.com,it will also be posted on our webpage in the very near future, mailings are also planned.
Thanks and have a great summer. B.J. Ciesielski
